It has the same chemical structure (C10 H14 N2) as nicotine from tobacco. The nicotine molecule has 2 isomers or mirror images of each other; (-)Levorotary or L-nicotine and (+) Dextrorotary of D-nicotine.
Tobacco derived nicotine contains (-) L-nicotine and the only isomer that has an effect in the human brain. Synthetic nicotine will contain equal concentrations of (-)L and (+)D-nicotine.
