Despite being seen as a ’smokefree success’ after a 2017 survey found Sweden had Europe’s lowest smoking rate at 5%, the country has taken the backwards step of announcing a ban on flavoured vape products.
The ban will cover nicotine free products and nicotine containing products, including synthetic nicotine products. It also includes popular menthol flavours, meaning that from 1 January 2023 only tobacco flavoured products will be allowed to be sold in Sweden. Non-tobacco flavoured products can stay on the market until the ban comes into force.
As an update, these are the European countries that have banned flavoured products:
• 🇪🇪 Estonia
• 🇫🇮 Finland
• 🇭🇺 Hungary
• 🇺🇦 Ukraine
• 🇩🇰 Denmark (From 1 April 2022)
• 🇱🇹 Lithuania (From 1 July 2022)
• 🇳🇱 Netherlands (From 1 July 2022)
• 🇸🇪 Sweden (From 1 January 2023)
